Don’t Be Normal, Be Weird!

DSC_0043There was a time in my life when I did everything by this imaginary rule book that I thought I needed to follow to be “normal!”  The more and more we stray from normal, the more I enjoy being weird!  AND, it has worked to our advantage more times than one!

What does the picture have to do with being weird you ask?  I went to grab two bowls for my kiddos cereal the other morning.  When I opened the cabinet I was greeted with a lack of bowls; they were all dirty!  The old me would have sighed and grabbed the dirty bowls from the dishwasher to handwash them.  The more creative version of myself thought, “Hmm, what can I use instead of a bowl?”  Then I spotted these fun glasses that I bought from the thrift store by the way, for 50 cents each!  I was pretty proud of my solution and excited about how fun the breakfast looked in the glass!

It’s this kind of thinking that helps us save money and pay down our debt quicker or pay cash for larger ticket items!

When our friends used to go out and blow $100-$150 a night at the bar, we were the weird ones who declined the invitation so we could save our money!

When hubby’s cousin believed that you will always have a car payment, we were the weird ones that broke free of that thought and paid off our cars!

I’m guessing that if you are reading my blog then you are weird too since we are all after the same goal; TO BE DEBT FREE!!!

In what ways have you felt “weird” around family and friends because you have a different approach to life than many?
