Our Debt Journey- Part 4

2012-  Three weeks into the new year hubby gets laid off.  The last time he was laid off, he was back to work in two weeks.  THIS time two weeks went by and two more weeks, then two months.  Finally, four months later, ON MY BIRTHDAY, he got hired on with an amazing company!!!  Although the unknown of what was going to happen next was a little stressful, we weren’t totally sitting on pins and needles because we had saved up 8 months of living expenses.

Looking back I definitely think we were being prepared for our situation now.  Ever since he started there he has worked a ton of overtime so we don’t see him as much as we would like.  But this is the season we are in right now and it is helping us immensely on our debt journey.

In the fall of 2012, the rates were still at the all time low of 3.5.  Even though we had the whole amount saved to pay off our lot (that was dipping too much into our extra months of living expenses fund), we paid cash for half and rolled the remainder of the lot loan into a refinance on our mortgage.

It feels great to only have one payment!!!  ONE DAY we will sell that lot and have the cash to apply towards paying off our mortgage!! :)

2013- Slowly coming along!!  We are determined to meet our goal of paying of our mortgage as soon as possible so we can pursue other dreams and meet other goals!!

Where are you on your debt journey?  I love hearing everyone’s stories!  Feel free to link to your story (if you have a blog) in the comments!! :)

Your comment on my blog made me smile :) You have an awesome blog name (and real name) too!

Way to buckle down and take care of that mortgage! That’s awesome! It seems like most people don’t really even consider a mortgage debt or feel any urgency about paying it off. Good for you!

We don’t have a mortgage anymore… but we do have some serious student loan debt that is even bigger than what the mortgage on our house was. We are taking extreme measures to pay it off asap. You can read our story here: http://www.sixfiguresunder.com/our-story/
